Data Back Up FAQs

Q: Is it safe to do backup via internet?

A: Definitely. Your data is securely stored off-site, using military level encryption employed by most multi-national banks that require a high level of security. All of your data is 128-bit encrypted and compressed before being uploaded and stored on Offsite Backup Solutions’ Offsite Backup Server through a secure SSL channel.

Encryption and decryption will only be done on client’s machine with user’s password, which will not be transmitted during uploading and downloading. Therefore, nobody can read the files.

Q: Do I have to backup my data?

A: Setting up data backup, recovery and retention policies is the only way to prevent disaster from happening and safeguard your business continuity. Backing up your business data is so important that governments worldwide have started imposing regulations on businesses to ensure safe data retention.

Governments have started imposing regulations to ensure safe data retention in businesses so as to protect public interest. Although your industry may not be affected at the moment, it is wise to do it earlier.

Here are some of the regulations in the United States: Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA)

Q: Can I backup my data with tape?

A: Conventional backup methods such as tape are proven to not be as reliable as Offsite Backup.  Why?:

  • Data is not encrypted
  • Prone to physical and mechanical damages
  • Prone to be stolen or misplaced
  • High failure rates during restoration
  • Critical backup failures will not be detected until at the time of restoration
  • High cost of maintenance and licensing
  • and, the human element; someone’s gotta change the tapes!
